According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter an Alabama judge has cleared Rolando McClain of all charges stemming for his arrest a year ago. Previously McClain was found guilty with a potential six-month jail term hanging over his head. McClain’s lawyer appealed and to his credit appears to have notched a major victory for his client.
This means McClain will avoid both jail time and a potential NFL suspension. Unless of course Roger Goodell wants to get into his parenting mood again and make an example of McClain. But that seems unlikely given the recent unrest between the union and the commissioner’s office.
It also seems unlikely that this news will matter much to McClain’s future in Oakland. Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen opted to keep the disappointing former top 10 pick coming out of camp to see what he can do. All McClain has does this season is find himself in a reduced role that is unfitting for a man expected to be the leader of the defense.
None the less McClain has had a few memorable moments but nothing that will make anyone confuse him with Ray Lewis. One thing he does have in common with Lewis is avoiding jail time. Not the kind of accomplishment that’s going to get you into Canton but it is something worth celebrating…after a Raiders’ win of course.
