It seems only like a matter of time until the Raiders and Rolando McClain part ways. The way Reggie McKenzie has the rid the franchise of Al Davis’ scholarship players combined with McClain’s continued slide down the depth chart would suggest his days in Silver and Black are numbered.
Well, that day could come sooner that expected what with all the unfounded rumoring and speculation surrounding McClain’s absence/dismissal/removal/disappearance from practice today.
Dennis Allen won’t cite anything specific but McClain was excused from practice today for “team-related issues”. That can be perceived as anything. Did McClain get into a heated exchange with another player or coach? Was he dogging it in practice like he tends to on Sundays? Did the equipment manager forget to layout a #55 practice jersey?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Now what makes this absence so ripe for conspiracy theories are two very interesting facts.
1) McClain was in practice during the media session meaning he was sent home having already arrived at the team facility.
2) The Raiders did put in a waiver claim on the recently released Jason Babin.
You do the math on that one. It would almost appear as if the Raiders were banking on landing Babin which would have meant opening a roster spot for the new defender. Hence the logic behind sending McClain home as it might well have been his locker that would have been cleared out. As it turns out the Jacksonville Jaguars – exactly one spot ahead of Oakland in the waiver pecking order – got the rights to Babin. Allen is on the record saying he’s not sure if McClain will be in practice on Thursday.
Let the speculation continue…
