This is the new age NFL. The public demands the product and the NFL provides it no matter how sloppy the product may be.
Lately the Raiders brand of football has been about the worst bang for your buck out there. Each week the Silver and Black seem to stumble to new lows with Sunday’s loss to Cleveland being (hopefully) the bottom.
The bad news is also the good news. There is no time to dwell on the past. Only time to move forward and prepare for a rematch with the Denver Broncos.
As part of this new NFL every team plays on Thursday Night at least once a year from now on. The Thursday brand of football hasn’t been the best but that’s expected when you rush the product. This week the Raiders do time in the short week chair. Making this the season what it has been with Murphy’s Law being a way of life for the Raiders, they’ll be prepping with Greg Knapp at the helm. Dennis Allen is out until at least Wednesday if not longer to be with his ailing father.
Oakland’s coordinator tandem of Knapp and Jason Tarver are taking over in the interim with the offensive dunce coordinator taking the lead.
For Coach Allen we can only hope things go well with his father. Our thoughts are with him and his.
For the Raiders Thursday can either wait or can’t get here fast enough. We know how things have gone and we’ve got a sinking suspicion of where they’re going. But we also know all it takes is one inspired effort to turn things around.
Maybe all the negativity and gloom surrounding the East Bay will finally motivate the men in the locker room to do something special. Let’s hope so. Getting another pounding at the hands of Denver will make for an even longer wait until the next chance to right all these wrongs comes around.
This short week is a mixed blessing for sure. But it’s a burden every team goes through in this modern NFL. No more excuses at this point in the year. Only results matter. Has this team truly forgotten the motto of the franchise? Just do what…baby?
