In case you were wondering who would take the vacant spot on Oakland’s roster in the wake of the Rolando McClain suspension then you lost if you put your money on the team signing another linebacker. Instead the Raiders have picked up running back Jamize Olawale from the Dallas Cowboys.
Olawale is an undrafted rookie out of North Texas who was on the Cowboys’ practice squad until he got the call from Reggie McKenzie. Per NFL rules a team can sign a player from another team’s practice squad provided said player is immediately placed on the 53-man roster.
That the Raiders would ink another running back says they’re not completely positive that there will be a full compliment of healthy backs for the quick turnaround Thursday. Marcel Reece is dealing with a hamstring issue and there is nothing official on the status of Darren McFadden or Mike Goodson.
What we do know for sure is that Taiwan Jones is never going to get out of the coach’s dog house. Should Olawale be active for Thursday you’ll know Jones has played his final game in Silver and Black whenever this season ends. He’s already been passed over once for a practice squad call up. If the same happens again Jones might as well clean out his locker now.
