Rolando McClain Returns To Raiders In Reduced Role

Hard to imagine Rolando McClain playing even less for the Raiders now that he’s officially back in the fold. McClain returned to practice today apparently having said enough to convince Dennis Allen that he’s ready to be a Raider again.

Before McClain was suspended two games he was already seeing fewer and fewer reps on the field. Now it looks as if McClain won’t be on the field much at all.

According to Allen McClain was told prior to his suspension that if/when he returns it will be as a backup and special teams player.

Let that soak in for a second.

The eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft is already reduced to filling a role most often reserved for undrafted free agents that hustle their way onto the roster in camp.

What is even harder to believe is that McClain is still a Raider. I’m all for giving someone the opportunity to right a wrong. I’m also all for anything that helps makes this team better. However it doesn’t seem likely that McClain will be a Raider beyond this season and it definitely feels like his continued presence on the roster is more closely related to financial issues than it is production or personality.

But that is just opinion. I have no facts to backup my ideals. Just a sinking suspicion that there are some backdoor games being played in order to save any cash possible even at the expense of team chemistry.
