IF (big IF here) the Oakland Raiders have any desire to keep, develop and actually utilize the talents of Terrelle Pryor then all they’ll need to do is study the usage of Cam Newton this Sunday in Carolina.
If (smaller if this time) the Raiders actually plan on using Pryor’s talents this Sunday then all they’ll need to do is tell him to do what he’s been doing all week.
To help the Raiders prepare for Newton and the unorthodox offense the Panthers have brought to the NFL Pryor has played the role of SuperCam in practice. In fact Mike Goodson, who played with Newton last season, sees a lot of similarities between Pryor and Cam.
“Terrelle is the closest guy to Cam. We’ve got the guy.”
So IF (another big IF here) Greg Knapp has any imagination he’ll take some of what his young QB did in practice this week and incorporate it into his offense with Pryor. For weeks now we’ve heard talk of the Raiders getting Pryor involved. To date he’s had three plays and thrown one pass. There are impotent men on porn sets more involved than Pryor has been for the Raiders.
Reggie McKenzie has said he wants to get a look at Pryor. Raider Nation wants to see what he can do. So what is keeping Knapp from creating a few plays with Pryor in mind?
Let’s not get carried away though. By no means am I saying that Pryor is ready to run an NFL offense like Newton has done for two years now. Even with all he’s accomplished Newton’s struggles have been well documented. There is no way Pryor is ready to walk that path.
However if we’re talking about giving Pryor a few looks in a read-option package or possibly putting his talents to use in short yardage situations or even at receiver then the time is past due. As evident by last week’s touchdown free Sunday the Oakland offense is in need of a lift. Perhaps Pryor can provide just that.
Oakland has already seen what Pryor can do playing the Newton role. Why not let the rest of the world get a peek too? IF (huge IF here) that’s not asking too much of a 4-10 team.
