Carson Palmer has already been ruled out for Sunday’s season finale in San Diego. The nasty hit he took yesterday in Carolina resulted in the veteran QB suffering cracked ribs and a bruised lung. Though Palmer was able to fly with the team back to Oakland he was held overnight in a Bay Area medical center for monitoring.
With Palmer out the natural speculation on who will start on Sunday has begun. Matt Leinart took Palmer’s place on Sunday and produced nothing noteworthy. Terrelle Pryor finally saw some action but Dennis Allen has made it pretty clear that his young QB isn’t ready.
No matter the starter for Sunday this is truly an unfortunate end to Palmer’s season. His play has been erratic with some major mistakes in crucial moments being the lasting image of this campaign. But you’ve got to give Palmer props for being a true pro. Despite the very obvious struggles of adapting to yet another new offensive scheme Palmer has done everything that’s been asked of him while remaining positive throughout the process.
