The last time the San Diego Chargers sought a new head coach they looked to their NorCal rivals for a blueprint. The end result was the Bandwagon Bolts hiring Norv Turner a man the Oakland Raiders had fired as their head coach.
We know how that turned out. In fact we all knew how that was going to go the moment they introduced Turner. The laughs coming from the East Bay could be heard in the Gaslamp District.
It only took six underachieving years but the Chargers finally realized Turner had ruined any chance of finally sniffing a Lombardi trophy. So with a new search for a head coach underway the Chargers again looked to the Raiders for guidance.
Wouldn’t you know it? The Dolts did it again!
Last year the Raiders plucked Dennis Allen from the rival Denver Broncos to replace Hue Jackson. And in typical Charger fashion they too took a page from the Raiders’ book by tapping the Broncos for their next head coach.
Broncos’ offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is reported to be the next ex-coach of the Chargers one year after Denver’s defensive coordinator (Allen) made the same leap in Oakland.
No telling what the future holds for either franchise. We can only hope things improve drastically for Allen. However I sincerely hope McCoy’s first year is as successful as Allen’s.
