What is the sports world coming to? In one week we’ve gone from a girlfriend hoax to a Super Bowl sabotage plot that took ten years to even be discussed.
First it was attention starved Tim Brown that came forward with an out-of-nowhere revelation that Bill Callahan supposedly sabotaged the Chucky Bowl just to spite the Raiders organization. As if that weren’t unbelievable enough along comes Jerry Rice (yeah that Jerry Rice) to cosign on Brown’s sabotage saga.
Not only do Brown and Rice claim that Callahan’s last minute change in game plan handed his pal Jon Gruden legendary status but that the decision also said to have driven Barrett Robbins to his infamous manic episode before the big game.
Look, if anyone sabotaged that game it was Al Davis by forcing Chucky out of the Bay. That is what sealed the deal. Gruden didn’t need Callahan’s help since he was the man that made Rich Gannon so it was only natural he broke him too.
What makes this even more unrealistic is that it took a solid 10 years for anyone to say anything remotely close to these claims. What were Brown and Rice waiting for? Why were they not screaming this seconds after the game ended…the moment it happened…five years ago even?
Whatever their motivation is to further bury Callahan who is already a twice failed head coach is beyond selfish. Brown and Rice are two All-Time greats with nothing left to prove. What they’ve done on the field will never be forgotten. But attention-grabbing statements like these will slowly overshadow their accomplishment as their diva natures become more exposed the further they are away from the game.
Move on guys…please.
