Finally, Christmas is here…NFL Christmas that is! It’s that special day of the year when general managers go running to their big boards in hopes of unwrapping a potential future Hall of Famer left under their tree by Santa aka Roger Goodell.
For the Oakland Raiders the first day of the draft has been nothing more than a viewing party the last two seasons. Without first round picks in each of the last two drafts the Silver and Black have simply sat back and observed. Not the case in 2013.
Being that the Raiders are back in the top 5 yet still have plenty of holes to fill and no second round selection there has been no shortage of trade speculation. So it’s only fitting that with the draft mere hours away the trade rumors begin flying.
While Reggie McKenzie has been keeping his cards hidden there is reason to believe the Raiders will listen to offers from teams looking to move up in the draft. Already the Cleveland Browns are reported to be interested in moving into the top 3 to acquire a pass rusher. Coincidentally that’s where the Raiders are sitting.
Also, the St. Louis Rams are looking to move the 22nd overall pick acquired from the Washington Redskins in the RGIII sweepstakes from a year ago.
As Oakland is sitting pretty with a very early pick they can seemingly name their price. McKenzie must surely want to get as much help as possible as he builds this franchise the Green Bay way so that would be moving back in round one in hopes of getting an early pick in round two with perhaps an added bonus of more late round additions as well.
Stay tuned. The drama is just getting warmed up.
