Raiders Select CB D.J. Hayden With 12th Pick In 2013 NFL Draft

After being so secretive for the last few months Reggie McKenzie let the cat out of the bag today. Initially it was assumed that the Raiders were going to trade down in round one. Then McKenzie tossed a little cold water on that hot rumor.

What did the Raiders do? Go out and move down in first round after swapping picks with the Miami Dolphins in a shrewd move by GM Reggie.

Next you had to wonder just who the Raiders were considering with the 12th pick in 2013. Unless you saw the rumors swirling this morning that the apple of Oakland’s eye was the fast rising cornerback from the University of Houston named D.J. Hayden.

Proving the rumors accurate that was the exact name called when McKenzie sent in his first pick of 2013.

Hayden’s talent earned him plenty of praise as some have gone as far as to call him the best cornerback prospect in a draft class that includes Alabama’s Dee Milliner.  But no matter your opinion what’s impossible to ignore is Hayden’s neat brush with death. No doubt he’s counting his blessings tonight as too is McKenzie who made a bold move to land the man he coveted all along.

I Love the fact McKenzie was able to trade down, but keep The Raiders in the mix to draft a potential 10 prospect. I feel Our pick at 12 was a gamble; DJ Hayden has the POTENTIAL to be a primer back at the NFL level, but POTENTIAL is for lower round picks & not the 12th pick in the 1st round. If we were going for cb, why gamble when would could of picked trufant/Rhodes? DJ is fast, but his size is avg. & will his body hold up against a NFL type hit/hits. Even though medically cleared, he could get popped hard enough to take him out of his career even before it gets started. My fingers are crossed he is next Charles Woodrow, but still feel the pick was a gamble when very soild immediate impact players where up for grabs. Go Raider & Hayden!

mckensie was going to draft hayden at the 3 spot if he couldnt find a trade partner

    and what did he do?

not only did he find a trade partner in miami but in the process he regained the lost 2nd round pick (42overall) we gave up for carson palmer and STILL got the guy they were targeting which fills a huge hole in our secondary

    great cover guy

all i gotta say RAIDER NATION is…

… reggie mckensie is makin all rhe right moves
