Matt McGloin A Dark Horse To Win The Starting Quarterback Job?

Could we see another Russell Wilson break through camp out of nowhere and win the starting job?

That may be the possibility in Oakland at Raiders camp with undrafted free agent quarterback Matt McGloin, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortenson.

Here’s the report from Rotoworld:

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on NFL 32 that undrafted rookie QB Matt McGloin has made a “huge impression” on Raiders brass at OTAs and is a candidate to climb the depth chart.

The way I look at it, it’s nice to finally see a much-heated quarterback competition for the Raiders. It’s still very early to say that McGloin will be the starting quarterback day one, but if he has continued success through out camp and in the preseason, then it could end up being a sure thing.

Lil early for that kinda talk…..

No chance at being the starter. But he could very well take Pryor’s spot.

If you are just going to parrot ESPN, I’m not going to even bother with your site anymore.

There should be a real open competition without the distraction of contract dollars and favorites. Leadership, intelligence, poise are all important facets of the key position…but so is an athletic player and somebody that can and will move the chains and get in the end zone. From what it looks like the Raiders will not give Terelle Pryor a legitimate shot at the position…and its just not right. I’m not sure if Pryor would consider TE and or WR or not, but it’s a damn shame to waste the physical talent as he is as athletic as anybody on the entire roster.

I’m pulling for you Matt. You did well for us at Penn State under the worst possible circumstances.

I think this might be a bit premature. The REAL QB competition will be next season. Flynn will be the starting QB this season unless he gets injured, but Wilson and McGloin will get every opportunity come 2014.
