Summer Drags On as Raider Nation Waits

We wait for the never-ending lull between mini-camps and actual training camp to end.  The yearning feeling for immediate news of what our team is doing during this off time causes us to scour the internet for any excerpt or opinion that mentions the Oakland Raiders.  We are forced to listen to naysayers and critics who form an opinion based on stats alone.  Yet, we wait patiently, or impatiently, for our team to take the field.

Every day I search the internet for the latest news or story that discusses the Raiders.  My hope, as always, is to give Raider Nation the thing it wants most, a Raiders opinion.  I’m not some has been player or nerdy troglodyte that thinks they’re an expert because they crunched numbers.  I’m a Raiders fan.  I have been all my life.  I was able to attain this position due to my views about the Raiders and Raider Nation (See my story “Loyalty Does Not Make Us Blind”).

I love the game of football, but I have always been a fan of the Raiders.  Whether in Oakland or Los Angeles, I remained faithful to the silver and black.  One thing that can be said amongst my peers, “Nobody can question my loyalty or passion for the Oakland Raiders.”  All right, I’ll get off my soap box.

In this time of boredom, take the opportunity to get to know the new players on the team.  Search the history of the Oakland Raiders Franchise.  Too many younger Raiders fans don’t understand who this storied franchise is and how good it used to be.  Pass the information on to friends and loved ones.  Help them to understand what and who they root for.  It will pay off in the end.

Remember that all teams go through highs and lows.  Some have never achieved a Lombardi Trophy.  It just so happens that the Raiders have three of them.  Although there are teams that have won more, the Raiders are on the verge of creating a new dynasty themselves.  We may be missing a few necessary pieces, but the ground work is in place.

This season will prove to surprise many Raiders critics.  Raider Nation will be elated with the progress that the Raiders will make.  It may not be a playoff season, unless, of course, this team is anything like the 1980 team.  I know its wishful thinking, but I can dream can’t I.  In any event, make the most of this time we have before the start of the season.  Remember, once a Raider, always a Raider.
