Ask a Oakland Raiders Fan: Javier Martinez's Perspective

In my continuing segment, I had the pleasure of being contacted by Javier Martinez, a Oakland Raiders fan living in Coachella, CA.  Javier is an Administrative Assistant for a Non-profit Organization.  He was born and raised in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs Area).  He’s been a Raiders fan as far back as he can remember.  He is also a proud member of the Raider Nation and he bleeds nothing but silver and black!

I asked Javier the following questions, and these were his responses:

1.    What is your opinion of the 2013 Oakland Raiders, and how do you think the team will do this year?

Answer- I’m giving my honest opinion, I believe the Raiders will surprise many in today’s NFL world. Looking at the roster, I see so much talent and potential.  Beyond that I see so many under the radar guys that are hungry and ready to prove that not only do they belong in the NFL, but that it’s all about the “W” at the end of the game.”

2.    Do you think that Denarius Moore will elevate himself to an elite receiver this year? Why or why not?

Answer- “I do believe D-Moore will separate himself from the pack of exciting young receivers.  The reason, he has the most experience of the group and, like many, has so much to prove to himself, the team, and NFL, although, Rod Streater won’t be too far behind him.  I expect him to turn heads once again just like he did a year ago.”

3.    Who will be the quarterback of the Oakland Raiders in 2013, and why?

Answer- “Great question!  I’m going with Matt Flynn here.  I chose him because even with all that drama last season, he’s in a position to be the starting quarterback, and he has all the qualities that are needed to be a quarterback in the NFL today.  Not only does he have tremendous potential and talent, he has the intelligence to be really good.”

“I must admit, though, my favorite QB of the group is Terrelle Pryor.  I just think he would and could change our offensive dynamics and team in a way no other current QB on our roster can.  I love this guy’s will and commitment to continue getting better, it’s outstanding.”

4.    Who is your favorite Oakland Raider of all time? Explain.

Answer- Of all-time, I’d like to say Charles Woodson.  Not too far behind him is Marcel Reece.  I know, I know, I’m going with current players, but when you look at the things those two have been able to achieve and overcome at their respected positions, it is just awesome to witness.”

5.    What is your favorite Oakland Raiders moment, and where do you usually watch Oakland Raiders games? Explain.

Answer- My favorite Oakland Raiders moment would be, the firing of Greg Knapp (Ha, ha).  I really stand by that.  My reason is that he did nothing to better the Raiders offense last year (Previous stint as well).”

“I usually watch my Raiders play at home with a tailgate BBQ party leading up to kickoff.  Then, with the surround sound at full blast, I sit and enjoy every hit, crowd roar, and touchdown celebration with great joy.”

I can already taste the barbecue and smell the smoke from the grille.  The current players, Woodson and Reece, surprised me a bit, but they both have been dynamic players.  I hope we see more of it this season.

I would like to extend my thanks to Javier Martinez for taking the time to conduct this interview.  Again, if any of Raider Nation would like a chance to answer a few questions themselves, please contact me via email.  I will be continuing this segment through July 25th (The start of training camp).

I agree with Mr Martinez that the Raiders will be better than most believe they will be this year. Can’t wait for “The Raiders” to shove a fist full of silver & black down the throats of the media haters. I’m always optimistic this time of year, but still have serious doubts about our head coach. For the sake of The Nation & my beloved Raiders I wish Dennis Allen the best, but if we come out looking like the circus just rolled into town I would expect him to be released ASAP! 2014 Silver & Black back on track ; 2015 Return to Excellence! Go Raiderrrrs!!!!!

I think our Head Coach will be just fine. Our defense will light some teams up and shut the critics up. The biggest obstacle this year is our offense finding its feet. We’ll see, but I am just as optimistic. 8-8 or 9-7, but we will see. Anything above that would be awesome!
