2013 Raiders Training Camp: Sio Moore, Menelik Watson, Pat Sims, Kaluka Maiava Out of Sunday’s Practice

As the Raiders embark on their first padded practice this morning in Napa they will be doing so without one of the most highly anticipated rookies at 2013 Training Camp.

After getting banged up at practice yesterday, third round draft pick Sio Moore came out to the field sans pads to start Sunday’s session, signalling that he would not be participating in the Raiders first padded drills of camp.

Vic Tafur also tweeted that D.J. Hayden started the practice as the Raiders put on the pads, but kept his red “no contact” jersey on as he takes precautions to continue his rehab and return to football after the rupturing of his vena cava at University of Houston practice last season.

Linebacker Kaluka Maiava was still in the walking boot that he appeared with on Saturday and will be out of practice as the Raiders go down two linebackers early on in the camp. Both Moore and Maiava figure to be contributing players in the Raiders linebacker picture this season so their early absence is a let down for Dennis Allen as he tries to piece together his depth chart for the Raiders first preseason game against Dallas.

Pat Sims also is missing from Raiders practice on Sunday to round out the notable absentees on defense.

Second round pick Menelik Watson was also without gear for the third straight day as he continues to heal before starting camp. Watson is competing for the spot at right tackle and will be looking to return as soon as possible as he will be behind the curve already as a rookie under line coach Tony Sparano.

Stay tuned for more reports as Sunday’s practice and press conferences unfold.
