Needing to get down to the 75 man roster limit for the final preseason game by 1pm today, the Raiders juggled their roster and made some moves to cut as little players as possible before Thursday’s clash with Seattle. To get down to the limit Oakland announced they placed Miles Burris on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, placed Latavius Murray and Joselio Hanson on Injured reserve.
Latavius Murray had been out much of camp with an undisclosed injury. He played in the second game of the preseason but was promptly back out of practice, his loss will be a huge blow to the Raiders running game as Murray was projected to platoon with Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings in his rookie campaign.
Joselio Hanson’s IR designation comes as a surprise. He played in the team’s week three preseason game against the Bears and even had an interception in what was a strong camp for the corner who was a slot coverage specialist in 2012. Dennis Allen said yesterday that Tracy Porter was taking over those duties, so maybe the loss of Hanson was forseeable. Porter has not looked good on outside pass coverage, getting now infamously abused by Drew Brees in his preseason return to the Superdome. With D.J. Hayden demanding snaps at the corner, a move to the slot for Porter was the logical move with Hanson hitting the IR.
Dennis Allen and Reggie McKenzie will get one more look at the remaining 75 players on Thursday before having to make some tough decisions when the roster needs to be cut down for Week One.
