Today, August 30th, a lot of teams made their moves to trim down their rosters from 75 to 53-players. However, the Oakland Raiders remained silent. This is a move that is reminiscent of the old Raiders organization under the Al Davis regime. Keep silent until the last-minute, in order to keep a player within the Raiders organization. A move that can be frustrating for some fans, but a regular move for a lot of teams throughout the league.
No team wants to let lose a player, only to have them play extremely well for another team. Every team hopes that they have found the diamond in the rough, even if he must be groomed for a year or two more on the practice squad. The Raiders are no exception, with several key position players that they would love to retain. Ultimately, somebody must be let go.
All day today on Twitter, Facebook, Fancred, and other social media venues, Raider Nation discussed many of the roster moves that should, could, and might be made. However, without confirmation from General Manager Reggie McKenzie or Head Coach Dennis Allen, anything that was talked about is just speculation. Even JBB threw their hand in the pot and offered up their version of who would be cut to make way for the 53-man roster. Is this the finalized version?
No, of course not, JBB doesn’t have an insider sitting in on the coaches and staff meetings. We here at JBB are just as anxious to find out who will be our finalized roster, and finalized depth chart. All of Raider Nation is on a holding pattern until Coach Allen announces who the starting quarterback will be. I think this plays so much into the fact that the Raiders are holding off making the roster cut announcements. Furthermore, the Raiders are waiting to see what injuries require injured reserve (IR), and who will be available for the opening day.
There are just so many questions and never enough answers. However, by 3:00 PM PST/ 6:00 PM EST Raider Nation will know who their 53-man roster will be. Speculation is something reserved for those of us who love to talk everything Raiders, but in the end that’s all it is, speculation. There are so many players on the bubble due to position depth and playability, and we, the fans, just won’t know until the cuts are made public. Surely the Raiders are trying to hang onto some players (practice squad), but eventually, they will have to make their picks public. When this happens, Just Blog Baby will provide any and all information possible for Raider Nation. Stay tuned to www.justblogbaby.com for the latest and greatest Oakland Raiders information.
