Before Raider Nation loses it over this rumor, remember, that’s all it is right now. Nothing is official, but Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com has tweeted that the Oakland Raiders have released defensive end David Bass.
“@jthom1: Raiders releaset DE David Bass, from University City High and Missouri Western State.” — didn’t see that coming.

Again, this has not been officially announced yet, but if this is the case, I don’t like this move one bit. David Bass is a very good player who did well in the pre-season. So what if he’s undersized, he can play. Now, if he’s still available by Tuesday, and the Raiders place Jared Veldheer on “designated to return IR,” Bass could be asked back. Only General Manager Reggie McKenzie and Head Coach Dennis Allen truly know what the plan is.
Unfortunately, the roster move was a toss-up between David Bass and Ryan Robinson. Too bad the Raiders can’t keep both of these players. Tough choice in my book, but once again, there can only be 53 plus 8 on the practice squad. Maybe there are plans in place for Bass to enter the practice squad, and then be moved to the 53-man roster when the Veldheer designation takes place.
For now, we can only take our best shot at making a guess as to who will remain and who will go. Keep checking back with JBB, and we’ll update you on the 53-roster in Oakland that is beginning to unfold.
