Oakland Raiders: Punter Chris Kluwe and Quarterback Tyler Wilson Both Cut, More Players Added

Just when Raider Nation settled in with the idea of the Oakland Raiders carrying 4 quarterbacks and 2 punters, the Raiders pull a fast one less than 24-hours after releasing their 53-man roster.

First and foremost, the punting job has been won by Marquette King.  As a result, the Raiders have cut Chris Kluwe.  Moreover, the Raiders also cut 4th round draft pick Tyler Wilson and placed him on waivers.  The Raiders are hoping to keep Wilson for the practice squad by making this move so late.  Considering that DE-David Bass has been claimed off of waivers by the Chicago Bears, this is a smarter move than it looks.

With the Raiders first regular season game less than 7 days away now, moves must be made to shore up certain positions along the offensive line and defensive line.  As a matter of fact, the Raiders have just made some moves to do just that.  Vic Tafur has just tweeted these moves:

Just after that, the Raiders make yet another move to claim an offensive lineman off of waivers:

Just when you think all the excitement is over-with, the Raiders surprise us by making their moves on Sunday.  The Raiders have claimed two players off of waivers to fill the vacancies made by releasing Kluwe and Wilson.

Defensive end Sanford, 6′ 2″ 280 pounds, joined the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent rookie in 2010, and he has primarily been a practice squad player.  Offensive guard McClain, 6′ 6″ 336 pounds, joined the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent rookie in 2012.  He was initially released by the Ravens before the beginning of the 2012 season, but he re-signed with the team as a member of their practice squad.

Keep checking back with JBB, because I’m sure these are just some of the moves the Raiders will be making today.

These moves are more favorable for the Raiders, but I don’t see why we haven’t acquired OL Webb after Bears cut him?? Don’t know if Webb is even still available , but he started with Bears last two seasons. The Raiders don’t need practice squad junkies, they need linemen cut by teams stacked with enough talent to release potential starters. Its apparent Raider Nation (myself included) believed in McKenzie more then we should of! His draft was very poor, hired ROOKIE head coach, and you never gamble on early round draft picks. Raider could of picked Hayden up later in draft & drafted a top notch linemen, still gambled on Watson with 2nd pick, definitely took Moore with 3rd, picked up another linemen with 4th, and still drafted Wilson in later rounds. The move that kills me the worst is Latavius Murray over Kenjon Barner from Oregon???? As the season progresses, we could find Hayden is NOT going to be a star, Watson should of kept playing basketball, and Sio Moore was the only thing good that came from the 2013 draft for the Raiders. I hope we still can pull off 6-10 season, but my hopes of rebounding in 2014 are starting to fade with each poor decision made. Why is it that other franchises can rebuild by drafting linemen, hiring a proven winning head coach, and having or acquiring a decent quarterback? I’ll die a diehard Raider Fan, but am tired of the excuses, seriously just tired of hearing the same lame….excuses!

I have said all along that Mark Davis just wanted the “hedges trimmed” so he hired the best hack he could find at the lowest price RM. RM gets cheaper with HC and in comes Alan and then they bring in awful OC who destroyed the great running game we had. His replacement has not proved himself with the sub standard play call in the preseason. The Jury is still out on the DC and with Reggie dumping all the players on D we shall wait and see. Overall I think all of the Management staff is just carrying water until Davis secures a Sale of the team or a new stadium deal.

You cannot make money in the NFL with a old small stadium like Oakland. Add to that the Blackouts and you have LOSER. Mark is not his Dad he has no passion for the Game nor does he believe in “JUST WIN BABY” RIP BIG AL!

Bonnie Blue, Immediately after Mark Davis signed McKenzie, McKenzie signed Dennis Allen, and Dennis Allen signed Greg Knap I felt the exact same way. Just didn’t understand the decisions being made??? At the begging of this years off season I briefly thought I was able to get inside McKenzie’s head & see the long term effect of what was to come for Our beloved Raiders. I believe some of the coaches hired this off season are above average, but have a below average talent to work with. Once the draft took place I was back standing on the other side of the fence again with you & other Raider Nation family members! Dennis Allen needs to be fired, or put on Defense with Tarver until he is truly ready to be a leader of men. I believe Reggie McKenzie despite the many early mistakes made could be an extraordinary General Manager very soon. McKenzie has changed many things The Raiders have failed to be current on over a short period of time. Most of those things he has implemented into Our franchise will last long after he retires, or gets fired. If McKenzie has another draft like this year, he is truly a buster & needs to go! There is just no reason for the idiotic gambling on early round draft picks. McKenzie claims you’ve got to stick to the board during the draft, I feel he better find a better board. By drafting from lower divisions one can land a diamond in the rough player, but it also can get you fired & leave a team hurting for lack luster picks. The Raiders need to draft the best players from the highest caliber college teams/divisions out there. I believe Allen will be fired or placed on D after this season, and McKenzie will learn from his mistakes. Go Raiders
