Terrelle Pryor practices with the first team Monday as the Oakland Raiders quarterback drama continues

With Dennis Allen refusing to show his hand when it comes to his team’s Week One starter at quarterback it has been a guessing game ever since Pryor’s breakout performance against the Chicago Bears as to who would get the nod. The answer became a little more clearer on Monday when it was reported that Terrelle Pryor had worked with the first team offence on Monday.

Terrelle Pryor took the first-team snaps at practice Monday, according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. Matt Flynn missed practice last week with a “sore arm,” but he wasn’t listed as one of the players who didn’t suit up on Monday.

Initially there was concerns on whether or not Pryor’s performance in their preseason finale would put Flynn back into the picture, but that appears to be a non issue as despite throwing an interception Pryor looked much more comfortable in getting the Raiders up the field than Flynn has.

Speaking to reporters Monday, coach Dennis Allen said that he has told Pryor and Flynn who will start Sunday’s game, but he isn’t yet making the decision public, according to Vic Tafur. Whether it be gamesmanship or simply trying to ease the pressure off of Pryor or Flynn for as long as possible by not revealing who is the choice Allen isn’t giving a final answer. For now assume Pryor to be the favorite, his superior athletic abilities are clearly earning him at least a very good look leading up to Sunday, making it very unlikely that Allen can even go back to Flynn at this point.

Other Practice Notes

  • Receiver Brice Butler returned to practice as well as linebacker Sio Moore on Monday. Both Butler and Moore are young Raiders who impressed early on  in the Raiders preseason schedule, their return is huge.
  • As reported earlier Alex Barron was released by the team. Barron had a poor run as the first string LT after being thrust into the position due to injury. Barron often looked lost and uninterested in giving a full effort over the course of an entire game making his release unsurprising to say the least.
  • The last spot on the Raiders practice squad is reportedly down to Connor Vernon or Tyler Wilson. The team will release their practice squad later in the afternoon.
