Oakland Raiders: Happy Birthday to LB-Kaelin Burnett #95

Hello Raider Nation!  Today, September 6, 2013, is linebacker Kaelin Burnett’s birthday.  Let’s all hit up social media and wish him a very Happy Birthday!  That’s right, the undrafted rookie free agent who signed with the Oakland Raiders in 2012 has turned 24 today.  On September 1, 2012, Kaelin Burnett was signed to the Raiders practice squad, and in November of 2012, he was moved from the practice squad to the active roster.  How lucky are we to have Kaelin Burnett?

First of all, without Kaelin Burnett on the team, there might not have been any chance that the Raiders would have been able to sign his big brother, Kevin Burnett, to a short contract.  Kevin Burnett is a very solid linebacker with a unique set of skills.  Not only is he a decent pass coverage and run stopping linebacker, but he can get after the quarterback too.  Kevin Burnett was with the Miami Dolphins last year, and he recorded over 100 tackles.  He is a steady and knowledgeable veteran who will provide excellent tutelage to the younger linebackers (i.e., Sio Moore, Kaelin Burnett, Ryan Robinson, etc…), and he has a very good work ethic which should rub off on the younger players as well.

Secondly, Kaelin Burnett has a very unique opportunity to play football on defense with his brother.  As a matter of fact, this is the very first brother tandem that the Oakland Raiders have ever had.  Kevin Burnett will be coaching up his little brother, and in the pre-season, Kaelin Burnett showed a lot of growth from the 2012 season.  So much growth that he was able to keep an active roster spot.  Raider Nation will be able to watch #94 (Kevin) and #95 (Kaelin) rush the quarterback, drop back in pass coverage, and crush running backs.

So let’s show Kaelin Burnett the love that Raider Nation has to offer to Raiders players, and we will all wish him a very Happy Birthday!
