4. LB-Nick Roach: If your league is an IDP league, and you are awarded points for tackles, this is a player to grab. He’s going to be spearheading the linebacker corps of the Raiders, and he is the signal caller of the defense. He is really good at diagnosing plays, and he plugs the running lanes up. He recorded nine tackles (led the team) in the game against the Indianapolis Colts, and he had his hand on the ball carrier/receiver more than that. He will also be dropping into pass coverage a lot, so look for him to have his opportunities to make interceptions.
5. SS-Tyvon Branch: Again, this is mostly for IDP leagues. Branch is a mean and nasty safety. He is going to deliver a blow when he collides with the ball carrier. He creates a lot of opportunity for the defense to get turnovers, and he is usually always somewhere near the football. He is going to get his opportunities to rush the passer, and he recorded his first sack of 2013 in Indianapolis last Sunday. Branch is known for being in the right place at the right time for fumble recoveries and interceptions, and he’s pretty good at returning them for touchdowns. If Branch is available in your league, get him now. Otherwise, he will beat you on Sunday.
These are my five key players that bring immediate fantasy football value to your team now. There are others that are intriguing (Denarius Moore, Mychal Rivera, Jeron Mastrud, Charles Woodson, Lamarr Houston, Jason Hunter, Kevin Burnett, and Sio Moore), but I want to see some more games under their belt before I make an assumption.
The Oakland Raiders stock is rising in the NFL. With the rising stock comes very good fantasy football value. Keep a close eye on the Raiders this season, and be cognizant about the players who give your team the opportunity to be the victor at the end of the fantasy football season. I guarantee these five players are worth a roster spot.
