Sometimes life under Dennis Allen leads to a headache and a half. This week has been one of those as Terrelle Pryor’s injury status after suffering a concussion on Monday against the Denver Broncos has lead to conflicting reports across the board on whether or not Pryor would start today as the Raiders take on the Washington Redskins at the O.co Coliseum.

Earlier in the week ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Pryor would not be cleared and wouldn’t play on Sunday, but Pryor was cleared and in lieu of that the San Francisco Chronicle’s Vic Tafur (a rock solid Raiders insider) reported that Pryor would be getting the game ball on Sunday.

Now the NFL on Fox team is getting in on the fun as Jay Glazer is reporting that the Raiders had a team meeting last night where it was reported that Matt Flynn would be getting the start regardless of Pryor’s condition.

This is now a full blown mystery. With the NFLPA probing the Raiders handling of Pryor on Monday, is Dennis Allen trying to avoid punishment by keeping Pryor from risking a second concussion despite being cleared by the league? Is the report true? Does Allen have more trust in Flynn because he was getting reps with the first team all week? There a lot of angles here that will be left unanswered until we see how the game unfolds.

From a game aspect Matt Flynn will be prepared to do the job. His history in coming in as a backup and performing has been well covered and he was tapped to be Oakland’s starter before training camp, but it is clear that his lack of mobility presents a challenge under Oakland’s offensive line which is still a work in progress. Pryor is the ideal starter, but if he can’t go it is obvious that Allen has some sort of faith in Flynn seeing as he was the one brought in to lead the team in 2013 in the first place.

Jay Glazer is a member of the Fox NFL Sunday crew, but he is not close to the Oakland camp like Vic Tafur. Is this some advanced gamesmanship from Dennis Allen in order to trick Mike Shanahan and the Redskins after Tafur’s leak? Who knows. We will all have to wait until the first snap this afternoon to find out.
