The Return of Pryor
Terrelle Pryor makes his return for the Raiders Sunday after missing Week 4 against the Washington Redksins. The Raiders likely would have won last week at home over Washington if not for the errors of Matt Flynn so Pryor has a huge chance to prove to Dennis Allen and Reggie McKenzie that he is the Raiders quarterback of the future with a win on Sunday night.
Pryor will need to as there have been multiple reports of the Raiders seriously considering the bringing in of Josh Freeman who is now a free agent after a fallout with Greg Schiano and the Tampa Bay Bucs staff. Mike Silver of the NFL Network reported that if Freeman was brought in it would be to be the starter above Pryor at the chagrin of the Raider Nation who consider Pryor as a fan favorite. If Pryor is going to remove the doubt out of Reggie McKenzie, Dennis Allen and offensive coordinator Greg Olsen’s minds he will need to lead the Raiders to a victory tonight.
RUN-DMC Show Cancelled?
Darren McFadden is likely out with a hamstring injury based on reports and quotes during the week. Dennis Allen is trying to use gamesmanship to avoid San Diego from assuming that he is out and it is still possible that he will play, but his quote that he would rather fully heal than risk a full tear of his hamstring hints that he will be out tonight.
Rashad Jennings will be the feature back in McFadden’s place even if DMC comes in and tries to give it a go tonight, Jennings has been preparing all week to take the starter carriers tonight and is a veteran of the league that can step in and get the job done. Marcel Reece recovered from a scary knee injury that knocked him out last Sunday and will likely get more touches tonight if DMC is inactive.
Tonight’s game has obviously been moved back to a 8:37 local start in light of a scheduling conflict with baseball and last night’s Tigers-Athletics Game 2 of the ALDS. The game is a sellout and should be loud with tailgating starting at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, something that should definitely play in the Raiders advantage.
After a terrible 2012, Phillip Rivers has San Diego back to a respectable 2-2 record despite low expectations for the Chargers heading into the season. A big win at home over the Cowboys last Sunday has the Chargers thinking tonight is a chance to move to 3-2, the Raiders will have to make sure that their momentum is stifled early with a hot start tonight.
I will end tonight’s preview with what will be one of the best moments in the Black Hole’s history tonight when this banner is unfurled. Twitter credit goes to @BHoak510 (the National Media is forgetting to give him enough credit for this) Go Raiders.
