With the Houston Texans, the St. Louis Rams or the Chicago Bears scouring over the list of free agent quarterbacks on the market it has been a busy Monday for the list of familiar names looking for NFL jobs at the quarterback position. All three teams lost quarterbacks to injuries and are using the depth on their rosters to fill in for now, but are also looking for free agent quarterbacks.
Just don’t count on JaMarcus Russell being one of those names thrown around this week as quarterbacks are handed out workouts, a second chance to reboost their NFL careers with a paying gig.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Russell is not ready yet and still working on his knee and weight, not surprising considering that this was the story during the preseason when Russell didn’t pop up at a single NFL camp this summer.

It is unlikely that Russell would even get much of a look even if he was healthy, Vince Young is still looking for a job and is a much better option as is recently cut Brady Quinn who got the snip from Rex Ryan and the Jets following their win over the Patriots Sunday. The road back to the NFL seems to be an unlikely one for Russell, but it is even more unlikely if he doesn’t continue to make a serious effort at getting back into game shape.
Meanwhile Matt Flynn sits in second in the “Terrible Former Raiders QB” power rankings behind Russell and “ahead” of Carson Palmer. A job is a job.
