Key Storylines

Pryor looks for bounce back game

Terrelle Pryor has made it pretty clear that he thinks that the Raiders can still make the playoffs despite their 2-4 record, going as far as to tell the media about it. If that prediction is going to become any more likely the Raiders need to find a win today and it is going to likely have to come from the arm and legs of Pryor as his play against the Kansas City Chiefs was a part of a disappointing 24-7 loss where the Raiders offense looked lost for the majority of the game. Playing at home and having a chance to move one game closer to being back at .500 the Raiders need a better performance from Pryor if they are going to claw their way into the playoff discussion.

Raiders look to end post-bye week losing streak

The Raiders are 0-10 in post-bye contests since the 2002 season. Dennis Allen has addressed that number all week and Oakland’s coaching staff and players (Pryor snuck in some more time with Tom House during the bye) put in a lot of work over the off week because of that. It will be interesting to see what adjustments the Raiders made last week with no opponent to play on Sunday and if Dennis Allen did the correct amount of work to lift the Raiders to an important victory.

Dick LeBeau looks to continue to dominate young quarterbacks

Dick LeBeau is 16-2 against rookie quarterbacks. With Pryor being in his first full year as a starting quarterback that number is very relevant. Oakland will need to be aware of LeBeau’s blitzes at all times with their banged up offensive line. The Steelers defense might be old, but it can still make enough huge plays to swing a football game in their direction.

Must win game

Oakland and Pittsburgh both have identical 2-4 records. Any hope of a potential playoff turnaround hinges on this game for both teams. It should be a smashmouth, intense, and close football game this afternoon at the Coliseum. Fitting for two teams that were once the bitterest of rivals battling for Super Bowls year after year during the 70′s. I can’t wait, enjoy the game everybody.
