The Oakland Raiders were unable to come away with their Week 12 match up against the Tennessee Titans with the win, as a game winning touchdown drive from Ryan Fitzpatrick sunk a potential winning drive of their own and pushed the team down to 4-7 in 2013.
However the Raiders did see enough of undrafted free agent rookie quarterback Matt McGloin to determine he will be starting later this week as the rookie continued to make throws for the Silver and Black
This news comes as no surprise after the Raiders passing attack has went from night to day under McGloin after Terrelle Pryor sat out with an MCL sprain against the Texans. While the Raiders may not have earned the win to move into the 6th seed in the AFC, an impressive drive from McGloin gave the Raiders a 19-16 lead halfway through the fourth quarter. McGloin also put the Raiders in several field goal positions throughout the game, two of which kicker Sebastian Janikowski missed from inside of 50 yards.
Terrelle Pryor likely will remain as the backup on Thursday, although the Raiders said they have packages for the former starter this season, he did not see the field on Sunday. With a short turnaround before Thursday’s game it is likely that may happen again. But going up against a high powered Cowboys team, the Raiders may just throw the kitchen sink at Dallas and put Pryor out there for a handful of plays to change the pace should they need to increase their firepower.
While McGloin is 1-1 as a starter now after a tough loss, it is clear that he is a better option inside of the pocket than Terrelle Pryor. With the Raiders offensive line developing confidence under a pocket passer who can get the ball out faster due to his ability in reading the field, moving on with McGloin is the logical choice for the Raiders.
