Each week Just Blog Baby editor Chase Ruttig gives his NFL picks against the spread. Here are his selections for Thanksgiving Day. Home team in CAPS, lines from Bet365. You know the drill.
LIONS (-6.5) over Packers
The Lions have been terrible as of late, but that likely only means that a Thanksgiving turnaround is coming. The Packers may have taken the Vikings to overtime last Sunday, but that was at home. For all of the Lions struggles in November, I don’t think they will find a way to blow a must win game against Matt Flynn’s noodle arm. Detroit finds a way to stop shooting themselves in the foot and wins a less entertaining than expected showdown in Detroit.
Bonus Thanksgiving Prop Bet: Matt Flynn Under 23.5 Completions
Raiders (+7.5) over COWBOYS
Dallas has one of the worst ranked defenses in the NFL and Oakland’s offense is only supposed to get better this week with the returns of Jared Veldheer and Darren McFadden. If the underrated Raiders defense can find a way to slightly slow down Dez Bryant and Tony Romo (possible giving former corner Mike Jenkins comments leading up to Thursday) this game has all the makings of being the best game of today’s tripleheader. Expect an impressive day from the Raiders offense with McFadden, the resurgent Rashad Jennings, and the under appreciated Marcel Reece in the backfield.
Bonus Thanksgiving Prop Bet: Matt McGloin Over 235.5 Passing Yards
RAVENS (-2.5) over Steelers
Yes, Pittsburgh has looked better as of late. Yes, the Ravens running game is hilariously bad this season. But when was the last time the Ravens allowed the Steelers to sweep them in the AFC North? Both these teams are terrible to watch and if their ugly game earlier in 2013 is any indication this will be another field goal filled game that comes down to the final possession of the game. In that case I want my money on the home team. Ravens find a way to drag out a game that nearly half its audience will be napping through by the third quarter.
