BREAKING: Marcel Reece to get start at running back for Raiders against Jets

For those who have been wishing that Raiders fullback Marcel Reece would get more touches in the backfield after signing an extension early in the season, you will be getting your wish in an hours time when the Raiders visit the New York Jets in a battle of two struggling AFC teams.

FOX NFL’s Jay Glazer reported that Rashad Jennings did not pass the league’s concussion protocol and therefore was not cleared to go out onto the field this Sunday. With Darren McFadden and Jeremy Stewart both injured that meant the Raiders two options were usual fullback Reece and former RB/special teams weapon Taiwan Jones.

While Glazer may want to brush up on his spelling of Raiders players, the report was also confirmed by the Raiders official twitter account and makes this Raiders-Jets game just a little bit more interesting. Reece has been likened to Ray Rice many times and has a ton of speed/power out of the fullback position but is also far from a typical running back. With the Jets holding teams to 77 yards rushing per game this will be the ultimate test to see if Reece can transition into more of a classic tailback role as a runner. It will be interesting to see if the talented running/catching fullback threat will be able to translate his success as a second option in the backfield into success as being the running back against one of the NFL’s best run defenses.

The complete inactive list for Raiders-Jets is as follows:

Raiders at Jets

Raiders: RB Darren McFadden, RB Jeremy Stewart, S Tyvon Branch, WRDenarius Moore, G Mike Brisiel, RB Rashad Jennings, G Lamar Mady

Jets: QB David Garrard, LB Jermaine Cunningham, G William Campbell, TOday Aboushi, T Ben Ijalana, TE Chris Pantale, WR Stephen Hill

While the Raiders players did everything they could to win this game, the coaching staff did everything they could to put them in a position to lose. In conclusion… They obviously threw this game for a better draft selection. Yes it sucks, but I’ll sleep better at night knowing they’ll have all their draft picks and 70 mil in play money for next year. As long as they finish the year 4-12 they will be in GREAT shape next year.

    From a optimistic Raiders fan.

To bad throwing this game did absolutely nothing for them moving up on the draft board, as CLE BUF ATL MIN HOU and WASH all lost this week.

That’s ok. At this point I’m sure you would agree, it’s better to lose than to win. There is still 3 games left, anything could happen.

  • Pridenpoise

I do agree, from this point on it’s Just Lose Baby.

I am so tired of people blaming the coaching staff for EVERY loss this team has, I will be the first to say this staff is young and has made mistakes, some might say to many, but after yesterday’s loss when the defence couldn’t stop a runny nose you are going to tell me that’s the coaches fault, NOT. And I might add that these guys are not going to be around for the next draft if they keep losing so there goes the theory of losing to gain on the draft board.
