As Oakland Raiders Head Coach Dennis Allen gets set to meet with Owner Mark Davis, some reports are emerging about a battle of assistant coaches and contracts. With Dennis Allen only having two years left on his contract, it doesn’t make sense to extend anyone beyond that time. But Mark just needs to let Reggie do the job he was hired for. As Mark Davis has stated many times, he knows what he knows and he knows what he doesn’t know. Hence the hiring of Reggie McKenzie to run the football operations and make the coaching/personnel decisions. I don’t think Mark will pretend to be his father and force any coaching changes on Reggie or Dennis. Sure, he’ll have his opinion, as we all do, but part of his hiring of Reggie, is he gave him the call on the coaches. So he should do as Reggie recommends and then hold them to it.
If I was Mark, I would ask Reggie, is DA his guy, does he think he can lead us back to prominence. If Reggie says yes, then I would extend Dennis Allen contract a year and all assistants as much as they wanted up to the end of their deals thru 2016. No need for the GM to have a contract a year longer than the coach, since it’s his guy. I would tell them, they are going to sink or swim together. Then I would tell them, Just Win Baby.
