Donald Penn leaves Oakland Raiders facilities without a contract

The Oakland Raiders weekend just got a lot, lot worse as just minutes after it was reported that Michael Oher had signed with the Tennessee Titans on a $5 million per year contract it was reported that Raiders top offensive line target Donald Penn left the Raiders facilities without a contract and is on his way to a visit with Washington.

The report comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

This is a huge blow for Reggie McKenzie’s seemingly sound plan for bolstering his offensive and defensive front ends following the departures of Jared Veldheer and Lamarr Houston. After missing out on Oher the Raiders will need to hope that Washington can’t close a deal with Penn during their visit, at this moment it appears that the odds will be bleak as Penn leaves the Bay Area without an offer he sees fit to sign off on.

He must want too much and reggie has a backup plan trust

Chase you drama queen! The Raiders still have the draft.

  • Fred

This one is hard to figure out. Donald Penn is a heck of blindside OT. Stays healthy, but yeah down year last season but his team was totally messed up. QB (Freeman) kinda went off a bit odd, coaching issues, his Guard got MRSA….led to bad year. But Donald is solid. Oakland will regret letting this one go. Can you imagine the Raiders NOT signing Penn but signing his QB from Tampa Bay? Man, I hope hot.

  • Fred

And Oh Yeah, Washington will sign him. Raheem will make sure of that.

  • Luis Hernandez

Well we did get Howard and tuck to replace Veldheer and Houston. They probably are comparable in skill or age, comparing tuck with Houston, but at least we replaced them. Now we need to replace porter and Jennings, and add new talent either through FA or draft.

  • Trevor

Yes we have the draft left… But why would we pigeon hole ourselves into HAVING to draft a tackle @5 when we could sign a solid player NOW to fill that position?? Drafting need vs best player available backfires SO often in the NFL and leads to missing out on Elite talent… We’ve been stuck in that vicious cycle for so long…

Menelik Watson will start at LT..Raiders high on DT Stacy McGee and Christo Bulikidi and DE Jack Crawford as well…also have Barnes, McCants and Howard…Will Draft A PlayMaker…Mack or Sammy Watkins.

  • James Schroeder

Washington over Cali. Some Indian team whos coach looks just like the mascot over the Silver and black. Say it ain’t so. Does he really want to block for RG3 n out, or Johnny Football taken in the 5th. C’mon man…..

  • KloverJane

Damn Foreskins trying to cut in.

  • James Cameron

It does suck that now we are kinda forced to go T at #5. Would much rather sign Penn and go after Watkins or Mack. We all want to trust Reggie to do the right thing but this OL is a mess cuz he let Veldheer walk without tagging him. Gotta keep the faith…Go Raiders!

  • Pridenpoise

Reggie is such a useless GM, yes he’s made a couple of ok signings and a bunch of blunders, this guy sucks D**K.

  • Luis Hernandez

I meant to say are not comparable*

  • Redd_Melendez

    Bilukidi is in Cincinnati now

I see a lot of optimistic comments on here. Whatever plan McKenzie had has failed. They preach about drafting players and developing them. Last time I checked Veldheer and Houston fit that mold perfectly and they’re ALREADY THERE. The Raiders are still the retirement home of the NFL. Tuck, Woodley, McFaded you gotta be kidding me. If you have an extensive injury history, over 30 (minus McFaded), and HAD a good few years the Raiders are the final stop for some quick big money. The best thing that can happen is a 2-14 record, new general manager/head coach, and moving back to L.A.

  • KloverJane

It takes a village to replace Veldeer…

  • KloverJane

Unfortunately you are correct in saying that the moves don’t exude confidence in management or respect exactly. I am going to try, however incredulous, at watching the new approach bring forth progress. After two years of purging and a decade before of mediocrity.

  • Raiders Rene

All we need is Ocognito get him and we will be ok

  • KloverJane

Incognito burrito. Just the guy we take on as always…could be a key player.

  • Tom Mitchel

IS VELDEER WORTH A11MIL TAG NO

  • James Cameron

First off, why are u shouting? LOL To answer your question, he’s probably not, but he also ended up signing for less with ARZ than what Reggie gave to Saffold who failed the physical, cuz Reggie lowballed Veldheer (who we drafted and developed). So go explain that, because Veldheer is BETTER than Saffold, who is a career guard anyway. He’s never started a full season at LT and would have been a huge failure there and everyone knows it.

  • Richard Gene Faller

If Penn is so solid why did his old team say farewell? I would take the best tackle in the draft “Robinson” in a heart beat if available. Fans should put little stock into what the so called experts write.

  • Tom Mitchel

VELDEER SAID HE WANTED TO STAY A RAIDER, BUT WHEN HE WAS NOT GOING TO GET A BIG PAY DAY HE WAS GOING TO LEAVE
