Poll: Does Raider Nation care about the World Cup?

The World Cup is well underway and if you have tuned on ESPN recently it is hard to ignore the world’s biggest sporting event, especially with the United States already one win into their road to a potential spot in the knockout rounds after a thrilling 2-1 win over Ghana last week it is hard to escape the World Cup fever.

With record ratings and a time slot that is more suitable for the casual sports fan, the World Cup has provided to a nice distraction for some who are waiting for the NFL season to begin. However for others the “other football” just doesn’t have enough hitting, or scoring, to fill their sports fix.

So the question remains: Does Raider Nation embrace “the beautiful game” and cheer on the USMNT (or Mexico/the other 30 World Cup nations) or is soccer not for the world’s most famous fans?

Let us know below if you care about the World Cup, or if you wish that the soccer madness would end as soon as possible.

Don’t apologize, I can’t stand it I’ve tried to force myself to watch the big tournaments like World Cup and the other one, lol whatever it’s called and I just can’t get interested in it.

  • Angel Becerra

Like to follow the World Cup only. Other than that, don’t follow soccer much. Viva Mexico!

  • Silvia Arredondo

I follow the US and occasionally Mexico but other than the world cup… I don’t have much interest for soccer. But I must admit the world cup is getting really exciting with the US doing so well. USA! USA! USA! lol

Hard to say. Remember, Americans, in general, weren’t raised on Soccer as much as other countries have been. We were raised on Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, and NASCAR. The Olympics was our only International peak into sports outside of the U.S. Soccer has a semi-new following in the United States. Patriotically speaking, anytime America is represented in most anything, then the U.S. fans are all over it. I believe the popularity for Soccer is growing, but American Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, and NASCAR, will always be the staples in America.
