There’s one thing I have to clear up before I get into the meat and potatoes of this post, Mike Wilkening of ProFootballTalk.com is a knucklehead!  His team rankings for the upcoming season are absolutely pitiful.  He ranked the Oakland Raiders at #32, really?  His basis for the ranking were the ages of the free agent acquisitions.  Please, I’m so sick and tired of hearing about age.  He also says that the Raiders are on a “Win-Now” kick.  Well, I would love to see the team win now as well, but this team is building for the future while trying to win.

There were definitely some absurdities with his rankings as well.  He ranked the Houston Texans at 25th, even though they just changed out their entire coaching staff.  The Cleveland Browns at 22, and the biggest shocker, the Atlanta Falcons at 14? Correct me if I’m wrong, but these teams had 4-12 records as well, and the Falcons totally did a 180 degree turn from the previous year.  So, Wilkening’s basis for his rankings falls on strength of schedule and age of players.  Ridiculous.

All right Raider Nation, I’m done with that rant.  It’s Monday morning, a few days before the Oakland Raiders start Training Camp, and I woke up to that post.  I had to get it out or be disgruntled all day long.  Now, let’s get back to reality.

The Oakland Raiders made a bunch of changes in the off-season, and Raider Nation is well aware of those changes.  I’m not going to bore you with listing their names again, but I will say that there is a steady balance of Veteran Leadership, Youth, and Hungry Players on the team.  Balance is everything.
