Kory Sheets out for 2014 season after injury

Grey Cup MVP and CFL star Kory Sheets was a promising player on the bubble of making the Oakland Raiders 53 man roster to help bolster the depth at the running back position. Making plays during the preseason and during training camp, Sheets running ability along with his pass catching had impressed head coach Dennis Allen and had him contending for a roster spot.

That all came crashing to earth on Friday night in Green Bay as a tear of his Achilles on a play that at the time looked like a devastating helmet to helmet hit will sideline him for the 2014 season according to Sheets’ Twitter account where the former Saskatchewan Roughrider thanked the fans from Canada along with Raider Nation for supporting him during his attempt at making a return to the NFL as a veteran running back.

It will be interesting to see if Sheets sticks around on the injured reserve for the Raiders, but as a veteran nearing the age of 30 the torn Achilles likely means an unfortunate end for a player who has worked so hard to be able to get a second chance at a career in the NFL. Close to making his dream a reality, it is sad to see Sheets go down even if the team may not have kept four running backs on the 53 man roster. A promising depth piece on the Raiders offense, Sheets future in football now has a lot of questions after an untimely season ending injury.
