Damaged Goods

I’ve been saying all along that Matt Schaub has been looking Matt Flynnish lately and he has the same thing!  Now I see why head coach Dennis Allen insisted that Schaub is the guy and how great he has looked in camp. Elbow tendinitis, just like any kind of tendinitis, creeps up on you and claims that joint whenever it wants to.

I wish Schaub the best but he’s damaged goods now and will be on a pitch count for the rest of his career. Rookie quarterback Derek Carr is as ready as a rookie can possibly be so the offense will be just fine. Carr can simply manage the game and throw deep when opposing defenses put eight or nine in the box.

Arm strength may not be everything  but there is a Mendoza line and Schaub is under it. Speed isn’t everything either but I bet we won’t see a starting receiver in the NFL running a 5-flat in the 40. Schaub should be a backup now just like Flynn, who’s good in spots but can’t take all the reps and starting quarterback need to be able to do just that.
