Oakland Raiders make round of cuts, including Juron Criner

Tuesday marked the mandatory deadline for the Oakland Raiders to shed their roster down to 75 players before the final preseason game and the team complied by making eight roster moves including the release of Trent Edwards in addition to the waiving of Juron Criner early this afternoon.

Criner was the most notable early cut as going into training camp he was expected to contend to make the 53 man roster, but the emergence of Brice Butler during second half action this preseason along with underwhelming returns from Criner ended the wideout’s stay in Oakland sooner than expected this August.

Other roster moves included expected “waived injured” moves to Kory Sheets who a suffered season ending injury against Green Bay after looking like a player who could contend for the 53 man roster, same for longtime fan favorite Greg Jenkins who was also waived injured along with Sheets.

Wrapping up the notables was Nick Kasa hitting the injured reserve along with offensive line veteran Lucas Nix being waived due to a failed physical, cornerback DJ Hayden freed up one extra roster spot for the time being by being placed on the PUP list as the rest of the roster decisions will need to be made before the 53 man roster deadline.
