At the moment the Oakland Raiders are the lone of the city’s three professional sports franchises with designs on remaining in their current locale. The A’s are as good as gone and the Warriors are talking about a move to The City.

Thus something has to be done in order to ensure the Raiders aren’t tempted to make another move to SoCal where a new football stadium awaits in Downtown Los Angeles. So taking a page from the L.A. Live complex where Farmer’s Field is slated to be constructed at some point in the future, the Coliseum Authority has committed $1-million towards a study on how best to renovate the area where the Raiders are housed in hopes of building a sports and entertainment district.

It’s a step in the right direction but at this point it’s only window dressing.

The Raiders desperately need a more modern stadium that they won’t have to share with other tenants. The city of Oakland itself needs a new hub of commerce as well. However the hurdles are many not the least of which is a city budget crisis resulting in layoffs of the local police force.

In short it’s going to take much more than a study of how best to renovate the area. It’s going to take a lot of private funding and plenty of heavy lifting to keep the Raiders in their rightful home.

Well, that didn’t take long. Only a few days after Tim Brown referred to Bill Callahan’s change of game plan mere days before the Chucky Bowl as “sabotage” he’s done a complete reversal saying he never said it was “sabotage” even though he’s quoted as saying it was “sabotage”.

Got that?

If that makes no sense then be on the lookout for replays of his interview this morning with Dan Patrick in which Brown says he never called it “sabotage”.

So, which is it Tim?

I always have, always will have Brown’s back when it comes to defending his should-be Hall of Fame career. Without question he is one of the greatest to ever play the game and his accomplishments reflect that. More importantly he’s one of the best to ever suit up for the Silver and Black.

However, as I claimed yesterday, this appears as nothing more than Brown trying to grab headlines in an attempt to get a foot in the door as broadcaster for some network looking for former players willing to set off fireworks. How Brown can one moment use the term “sabotage” then turn around and say he never said it was “sabotage” is a weak stance that softens his claim. It also screams of someone who has officially entered damage control mode.

Brown’s official stance now is that Callahan “didn’t throw the Super Bowl”.

Got that?

Now one claim Brown didn’t back off was that Callahan’s sudden change had a direct affect on Barrett Robbins. As we all know Robbins had a bipolar episode that sabotaged the Super Bowl for himself and certainly didn’t help his team at all. So in a sense Brown is still saying Callahan “sabotaged” the Super Bowl even though he didn’t say “sabotage”.

Got that? Good, because this is where this story ends. Thanks for nothing, Tim.

Have I lost my mind? Taiwan Jones of the Oakland Raiders at cornerback? Imagine that Raider Nation. Taiwan Jones recently was asked if he would be open to play cornerback in the NFL. Taiwan said “yes” and that he played cornerback in college. Not many members of the Raider Nation know this, (unless you are a closet Jones fan from birth). We’ve seen what he can do on special teams. He is an outstanding gunner with great tackling ability in tremendous speed. Besides Sebastian Janikowski, I would say Taiwan Jones has been our best special teams player of the season. (BOLD, I know, that’s the reason our ST coach got canned!)

Far Fetched?

If you think about it Raider Nation, it’s not that crazy. What can it hurt? Taiwan is buried under 3 different running backs being 4th on the depth chart. If you watch how he runs with the ball, he’s not scaring anybody on defense. Fact is, he runs like you should be running with a pair of ballerina slippers on. Worst comes to worst Taiwan will just end up being one of our best special teams players on the team. (Kinda like Rock Cartwright in our 2011 season.) We’ve seen players in the past switch from office to defense like Branch in New England. Taiwan Jones has a nose for the ball and great closing speed. (The 2 things that a cornerback should have.) I know it’s a reach Raider Nation, but really what does Taiwan have to lose.
