For anybody who thinks life in the NFL is all about making millions and having fun I’d suggest you take a look at Jason Campbell’s career. Sure, he’s made his millions. One upon a time JC was viewed as a franchise QB. Now he’s never lived up to that billing but then again he’s never been an outright bust either.

Sometimes there is nothing worse than being middle of the road. That is where Campbell is and even worse he’s truly at the crossroads.

Campbell did everything right this year. He stayed in shape during the lockout. He helped organize player workouts and even put up a few of his receivers at his home during the offseason so they could get in some extra work. Campbell was playing at a high level, making few mistakes and running the offense efficiently until disaster struck.

A broken collarbone ended Campbell’s season. A trade for Carson Palmer all but ended his career as a Raider.

Life in the NFL is not all about making millions and having fun. Life in the NFL is heartache and frustration for many. Just ask Campbell.

JC seems all but resigned to the fact that he’s going to be gone from the East Bay. But that didn’t stop him from working as if he’ll be back in silver and black nor has it kept him from some of his charitable acts.

Despite all that professionalism this is a business. Vittorio Tafur cites an anonymous source inside the Oakland franchise claiming Campbell is in no way a part of their plans going forward. Somehow I don’t think Campbell needed any confirmation on that front. The two high picks traded for Palmer all but assured there was no plan in place to pursue Campbell after the season was over.

Special teams are called special teams for reason. If our special teams did not show up on Sunday, we would have lost to the Cleveland Browns. Thank god for special teams! If it wasn’t for Jacoby Ford’s 101 yard run back for a touchdown and Shane’s great fake/pass for a touchdown to Kevin Boss we would have lost.

Having said that, our defense played very well. We kept pressure on Colt McCoy all day. Only two sacks recorded, but plenty of hits, hurries and knock downs. I’m sure someone on the Raiders D will get fined by Hitler Goodell this week.

The offense was clicking very well. Jason Campbell looked good up until the point where he decided to become a mobile quarterback. This is going to be a season changer for the Raiders. Campbell was having a productive year and was playing with great confidence. He will be missed!

Darrius Heyward-Bey is slowly becoming the teams best receiver. He is finally learning how to use his speed and actuall use his hands to catch the ball insted of his chest! I used to be a DHB hater but I’m slowly comming around. Keep playing with a chip on your shoulder DHB! (Crabtree who?)

Jacoby Ford had a fantastic game. That guy is amazing! He is so fast, with such great balance and instincts for the ball and the end zone. That tight rope walk down the side line was the baddest anti gravity exhibition I’ve ever seen. Running full speed as the upper half of his body was out of bounds for about 30 yards. Even Sir Isaac Newton flipped over in his grave and was like “Dang Bro!”

Darren McFadden looked unbelievable like normal. The Brown’s run defense is pretty stout but DMC showed why he leads the NFL in rushing! Michael Bush looked slow and sluggish but when he got in the clear, he ran pure and powerful like he normally does. (I was wanting to see some Tiawan Jones.)

For only having one practice under his belt, Aaron Curry played very well. Can you imagine playing for one team, being traded, having one practice and being a starter?

Our safeties looked fantastic. Very aggressive, big time bullies! They banged McCoy around so much that he didn’t want to hold the ball for more than two seconds. Happy Feet II, Colt’s day in Oakland.

All in all, we won the game. I’m thankful that we didn’t give the game away at the very end. Our defense really stepped up for Al Davis. I swear these games are driving me crazy. We can’t just blow somebody out by 20 points it has to always be a nail biter. These types of games wreak havoc on my digestive system.

Long live the Al Davis! Long live the Oakland Raiders! Long live Special teams! Long live JBB!

GO NATION!

These have been very trying times for the Oakland Raiders. Consecutive wins have come on the heels of the passing of Al Davis with Sunday’s victory coming at a cost. While the Raiders have firmly established themselves as contenders this season they could have to prove they can continue to push for the playoffs without Jason Campbell.

Campbell’s broken collar bone has put a damper on an otherwise perfect weekend of Raiders football. JC is slated to undergo surgery and is keeping it positive saying he hopes to return within six weeks.

That estimate is definitely on the positive side as Campbell has sustained one of the worst injuries a QB can endure. To make matters worse his injury occurred on his throwing arm. Last season Tony Romo experienced a similar injury which shut him down for the season. Campbell is hoping this won’t be his last action not only this season but as a Raider all together.

As Vittorio Tafur points out Campbell is in a contract year and was playing at a very high level by his standards. No telling what the future holds for Oakland at the QB position as the quest to find an option other than Kyle Boller has begun.

Without getting too melodramatic this has seemingly been the story of Campbell’s career. His trials are well known. Until this season JC had yet to spend more than two seasons in the same offense for his entire career. Then, just as he was becoming the competent signal caller that made him a first round pick and was leading the Raider resurrection this injury occurs.

One thing is for sure, if there is man out there built for dealing with this type of adversity its Campbell. Not all is lost for the Raiders but this is certainly a tough pill to swallow.
