Well, the unthinkable has become a cold reality. Coming off the best season of football in the Easy Bay in nearly a decade the Oakland Raiders were pitted with all kinds of personnel issues. Amid the many problems in piecing together a roster for the 2011 season was the prospect of having to re-sign the most important players on both the offense and defense.

It seemed a given that Nnamdi Asomugha was a goner. Al Davis pretty much waved goodbye to his best cover corner the second Asomugha’s contract was voided.

Now Zach Miller on the other hand…there was no way the Raiders were going to lose him. Miller meant the world to Oakland’s offense. He’d been among the NFL’s most consistent producers at the tight end position over the years. Without Miller the Raiders really don’t have much to lean on in the passing game.

No way Al lets him walk! We all chanted that mantra throughout the 4 and a half months in which players were greeted by padlocks at team facilities nationwide.

No way!

Well, Tom Cable had something to say about the matter.

Way!

Today the unimaginable became a harsh reality as the Seattle Seahawks reeled in the most prized tight end on the free agent market – one Zach Miller, formerly of the Oakland Raiders.

Even though it had been expected for months, yesterday’s farewell to Nnamdi Asomugha still came as a bit of a surprise. As team after team pulled out of the Asomugha sweepstakes the prospects of a Raider reunion became a possibility. Then those faint hopes were given last rites as the Philadelphia Eagles swooped in with a $60-million offer.

Now all eyes shift towards Zach Miller who thus far has been invisible in the free agent market.

Whereas as most of the prized free agents on the market have been surrounded by rumor, Miller has been sitting in silence. Not so much as a single report on an interested team or any clue on what Miller is weighing during his first taste of free agency.

Looks like the wheels are rolling and the season is on. It’s okay now to put your gear back on. Dust off that jersey and clean off that hat. Call your buddies because the fantasy draft is back on! (GO Waterboys!!!! 2006 Champs!) FOOTBALL IS BACK!
Now, what to expect this week; three months of football movement (aka free agency) in one week. This week is going to be crazy! Teams can come up big real fast this week. (Including the Raiders.) We need to sign our free agents first like Mike Bush then address the free agents are out there. We need some definite help so we may own the AFC West and the rest of the NFL! Prepare for one of the best Raider seasons ever! And no, I’m not one of those Super Bowl delusional fans that say it’s are year EVERY YEAR. We have a great foundation for a killer year. Go Nation!
