Raider’s New Cornerback

Have I lost my mind? Taiwan Jones of the Oakland Raiders at cornerback? Imagine that Raider Nation. Taiwan Jones recently was asked if he would be open to play cornerback in the NFL. Taiwan said “yes” and that he played cornerback in college. Not many members of the Raider Nation know this, (unless you are a closet Jones fan from birth). We’ve seen what he can do on special teams. He is an outstanding gunner with great tackling ability in tremendous speed. Besides Sebastian Janikowski, I would say Taiwan Jones has been our best special teams player of the season. (BOLD, I know, that’s the reason our ST coach got canned!)

Far Fetched?

If you think about it Raider Nation, it’s not that crazy. What can it hurt? Taiwan is buried under 3 different running backs being 4th on the depth chart. If you watch how he runs with the ball, he’s not scaring anybody on defense. Fact is, he runs like you should be running with a pair of ballerina slippers on. Worst comes to worst Taiwan will just end up being one of our best special teams players on the team. (Kinda like Rock Cartwright in our 2011 season.) We’ve seen players in the past switch from office to defense like Branch in New England. Taiwan Jones has a nose for the ball and great closing speed. (The 2 things that a cornerback should have.) I know it’s a reach Raider Nation, but really what does Taiwan have to lose.

Raiders Sign Three More To Reserve/Future Contracts

After re-signing the six members of their practice squad the Raiders added three more free agents via reserve/future contracts.

As you might expect two of the three have connections to the Green Bay Packers where Reggie McKenzie seems to enjoy diving in his former employer’s dumpster.

Both FB Jon Hoese and NT Johnny Jones were in Green Bay as members of the practice squad during McKenzie’s last season in the Cheese State.

The other signing, WR Isaiah Williams, has a Raiders connection as he played college ball with Darrius Heyward-Bey at Maryland.

Raiders Make First Roster Moves Of 2013

It’s not the start of the massive roster overhaul that’s coming but yesterday the Raiders got their feet wet in the personnel department for 2013. Six players were re-signed to reserve/future contracts as all six were members of the practice squad whose contracts had expired.

Those six include wide receiver Travionte Session, defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, tight end Mickey Shuler, linebacker Jerrell Harris and offensive linemen Jason Slowey and Jason Foster.

Consider this morsel of personnel news a crumb in comparison to the meal of moves to be served in the coming months.
