News & Notes
A few quotes from an Oakland Raiders report put out Wednesday night by NFL.com.
“I won’t prepare any differently,” (Daunte) Culpepper said (referring to Kiffin’s early announcement that Culpepper will start against the San Diego Chargers). ”I prepare the same no matter what. It’s no different to me. I expect to do whatever it takes to get a win,” he said. Whatever it takes to get a win. I’m pretty sure if you talk to every other guy in this locker room they’d say the same thing. It doesn’t matter.”
Jerry Porter on Culpepper’s progress.
“He’s coming along,” Porter said. “Naturally, the two guys have been there months before and had a bit of a leg up on him. … He can play. He’s getting a chance to get out there. If we’re in first place at the end of this thing, then it’s good. Right now it’s not,” Porter said. “When you start reading the papers, next thing you know, somebody is going to pass you up.”
Head Coach Lane Kiffin’s thoughts on Josh McCown’s injured foot.
“Every week it looks like he might be coming back and then he struggles,” Kiffin said. “We’re just going to take it day to day.”
Notes, ala Inside Bay Area.
– RB LaMont Jordan was in pads and doing crunches before practice, looking ready to go. However, he did not finish practice and coach Lane Kiffin isn’t sure whether he’ll be able to play.
– Jordan’s availability will determine how much work (Dominic) Rhodes gets in his Raiders debut. Once Jordan left practice Wedneday, Kiffin said, (Justin) Fargas and Rhodes split work with the first team.
– Guard Robert Gallery is glad to see another ballcarrier available for duty.
– DE Derrick Burgess, whose presence was being counted on to upgrade the outside pass rush, suffered a “setback in the last 24 hours.”
– DT Gerard Warren did not practice with a thigh injury, and hasn’t practiced since last Thursday, Kiffin said. Warren leads the Raiders with three sacks.
