The first round of the NFL Draft might get the glamor but it’s the second day of the draft that goes a long way in determining the future of an NFL franchise. After trading down in round one in order to acquire a pick in round two, Reggie McKenzie got back on the clock and went back to work.

Proving he’s got a little Al Davis in him McKenzie rolled the dice on Florida State right tackle Menelik Watson with the 42nd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Watson played only one season of football for the Seminoles after beginning his collegiate athletic career as a basketball player at

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

Marist College. Watson is also British bringing Oakland’s England contingency to two including Jack Crawford. How many teams can boast of that?

The Raiders have had revolving door at right tackle in recent years so the hope is Watson can put an end to that. Just how soon he’ll be ready to compete at the NFL level remains to be seen.

After addressing the O-line in round two McKenzie shifted his attention back to the defense in round three. With the 66th pick in the draft Oakland nabbed Connecticut linebacker Sio Moore. The selection of Moore adds to a growing collection of new linebackers in Silver and Black.

While many see Dennis Allen transitioning to a 3-4 Moore is a talent many view as being better suited to play in the 4-3. None the less athletic and versatile Moore gives Oakland more options as the defensive overhaul continues.

So it’s only natural that JBB rolls out its first mock draft of the mocking season. Now don’t read anything into this. Feel free to debate/discuss just know that in one month, heck one week, the names on this first draft will change, shift and some will even disappear all together.

As always makes sure to stay up on everything in the mocking world by checking out our friends over at DC Pro Sports Report, Walter Football, Hail Redskins and of course NFL Mocks.

As the NFL season reaches its conclusion the offseason is grinding towards its peak. With the third overall pick in the 2013 Draft the Raiders will have plenty of options to help improve a dismal defense.

Each week our draft experts here at FanSided are cranking out a new mock and this week they’ve got Oakland selecting All-American defensive end Damontre Moore from Texas A&M.

Moore is a versatile lineman capable of lining up with one hand in the dirt or standing depending on the scheme. He led A&M in tackles a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by an Aggie lineman in two decades.

With the Raiders needing serious help generating a pass rush and defending the run Moore could be the ideal fit even though previous mocks singled out Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei as the third overall selection. However if Dennis Allen is looking to shift towards mixed defensive fronts including a possible conversion to the 3-4 then Moore provides more possibilities as he’s capable of lining up all over the field. Of course Lotulelei could be an ideal nose tackle in the 3-4 as well.

Let’s not forget the Denver Broncos found one of the game’s best pass rushers down in College Station as Von Miller has become an absolute force in the NFL. Could Moore be in the same mold? That’s a risk someone is likely to take in the top 10 of the 2013 draft whether it’s the Raiders or not.

As the evaluation process shifts into high gear in the coming weeks we’ll keep you posted will all the draft knowledge you can handle.
