]]> We’re just hours away from the opening kick at Candlestick. For many Raiders today’s game is going to be pivotal in their chances of earning an increased role or simply making the cut. These preseason games have a very different feel thanks to the lockout. Normally teams would have had more opportunities to evaluate talent during the OTAs leading up to camp. Instead training camp and the preseason games themselves have become the only chances for guys like Derek Hagan to show what they’ve got.

Here are a few things to lookout for this evening.

- Hagan is in the middle of one of the most compelling battles coming out of Napa. Injuries in the receiving corps have created a potential roster spot. Shaun Bodiford, Chad Jackson and the aforementioned Hagan are all in the mix for a spot on the 53-man

- David Ausberry can be thankful the Raiders didn’t keep him at receiver. If he were still lining up out wide the former Trojan would be in the middle of the receiver scrum. Instead Ausberry is making a smooth transition to tight end and his chances of making the active roster are looking better by the day.

]]> With the first preseason game only days away the Raiders were looking a little thin at wide receiver. Both Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy are unlikely to play against Arizona on Thursday. Combine that with the loss of Johnnie Lee Higgins in free agency and there’s room for a possible roster spot at receiver in Oakland.

With that being said the Raiders brought in three new targets for the QBs as Chad Jackson, Derek Hagan and Shawn Bayes were all fitted for Silver and Black jerseys yesterday.

For Bayes this is his second time around with Oakland. The speedy receiver from Kent State was in Napa at this time last year. Jackson proves not everything Bill Belichick touches turns to gold. The former Florida Gator was a second round pick by the Pats back in ’06 yet has just 14 catches to his name during his pro career.  Hagan is a big receiver with all kinds of natural ability yet the former Sun Devil suffers from inconsistency in the effort he puts forth day in and day out.

Figure to see all three of these guys on the field in some capacity on Thursday. Of course the receiver Raider Nation is eager to take a peek at the man making Heyward-Bey expendable. I’m speaking, naturally, of Denarius Moore.
