Within hours of Jason Campbell breaking his collar bone the rumors began to spread as to which available QB the Raiders would reach out to. The two names that garnered the most attention were Carson Palmer and David Garrard. While the possibility of landing Palmer remains a long shot given the circumstances of current situation, it still remains a possibility. Now Garrard, on the other hand, is off the shortlist for good.

According to Jay Glazer, Garrard himself called to let the Fox insider know he’s going to need surgery to repair herniated disc in his back. That pretty much closes the book on Oakland’s flirtations with Garrard and also explains why the quality QB was out of work during a time when plenty of teams need quarterback assistance.

From a financial standpoint the option of landing Garrard made much more sense to the Raiders than Palmer. Plus there is no price to pay for Garrard other than whatever his salary might have been. Palmer comes with his large contract plus whatever value Bengals’ owner Mike Brown has placed on his disgruntled quarterback.

At this stage the Raiders are moving forward with Kyle Boller so no matter what happens a change at the position wouldn’t happen until some time in the future. Still, an already barren quarterback market has left few other options without Garrard being available.

Well, at least we know the Raiders aren’t a playoff team after losing what felt like a playoff game in Jacksonville today. Somehow a 24-14 lead became a 38-31 defeat. You could almost smell the Raider mystique until the wheels fell off in the second half.

This one was setting up lovely for Tom Cable. How can you lose when you have an unstoppable Darren McFadden and a lead in the second half?

Before we go any further, let’s have a moment of silence for one of the best performances you’ll ever see in your life. Run DMC’s 3 TDs were spectacular! The man is more than living up to the hype, he’s exceeding it. McFadden looked like a man amongst boys as he ran over, around and through the Jaguars. With the blocking on point all McFadden had to do was make one defender miss and it was over. Few people have a chance against Darren in a foot race. Just go ahead and put 6 on the board. Better luck next time.

That was the good.
