As if all the other warning signs weren’t enough here is absolute proof that Terrell Owens is done playing in the NFL.

It seems like every year we reach that point in the offseason where the T.O. to Oakland rumors start swirling. Equal parts journalistic laziness and general boredom, these rumors always ends the same way as being untrue and completely unfounded.

This offseason it was Owens popping up in picture having worked out with Carson Palmer and a few Raider receivers that sparked a minor T.O. to Oakland discussion. But even then it was quickly quieted when Palmer talked up his young receivers and the football world finally came to its senses after Owens drew no interest from any NFL franchise last season.

So, if you’re Terrell Owens and you’ve finally reached that point in your life when nobody cares anymore what do you do?

Why, start your own T.O. to Oakland rumor of course.

Over the weekend PFT reported that Owens gave an interview that will air today in which he expresses his delusional desire to play for the Raiders. As if that weren’t desperate enough for you Owens also states he’d like to return to the 49ers.

Good luck on both fronts, Terrell.

If Hue Jackson wasn’t willing to roll the dice on T.O. then you know there isn’t a Tim Tebow’s chance in an accuracy competition that Reggie McKenzie will come calling. I’m obviously no 9ers fans but I’m thinking that would be a ditto for their sentiments as well.

If Owens wasn’t such a massive douche this last ditch move of desperation might be tragic. Instead it’s just pathetic. Dude clearly doesn’t want to accept that fact that it’s over.

Hey, Owens, here’s the biggest hint you’re going to get that your career is on the Philip Michael Thomas scrapheap – the Raiders would rather have Eddie McGee on the scout team than you on the active roster. Let that sink in.

Of the many free agents to exit the East Bay this offseason few will elicit as many reactions as Chaz Schilens. Schilens was everything and nothing to the Raiders. A diamond in the rough that flashed all the potential of an All-Pro yet had the production only a practice squad lifer would envy. Injuries robbed Schilens of the chance to showcase his skills. Emerging young talents like Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford made him expendable.

Chaz has now taken his talent to the Big Apple where his greatest miracle will be trying to produce as a wide receiver with Mark Sanchez taking the time to occasionally complete pass between photo shoots. Best of luck with that, Chaz.

The Raiders have moved on. Such is the nature of pro football. Reggie McKenzie has no desire to continue the projects of Al Davis. However every team needs some type of prospective talent to mold. Without that talent evaluators would only have to scan NFL draft websites instead of actually doing their jobs.

One man that McKenzie has kept around as a pet project of sorts is Eddie McGee. The quarterback turned receiver flashed enough potential to earn a spot on the practice squad last season. Whatever it was the former coaching regime saw in McGee must have meant something to the current one.

Currently McGee still has roster spot. He was recently seen in the now infamous pic Tweeted by Darrius Heyward-Bey in which McGee stands next one Terrell Owens. That post-workout pic made some minor headlines this week because of unemployed diva amid the Raider receiving corps.

What got little to no play at all was Carson Palmer, who has been working out with many of his receivers including McGee, comparing the project pass catcher to Chaz Schilens.

To be sure McGee has a long way to go until the Schilens comparisons can begin. First and foremost McGee will have to make the active roster and actually catch a few balls in an NFL game. Practice squad heroics mean about as much as high school accomplishments in the NFL.

As far as similarities go, both Schilens and McGee are built the same way. McGee measures out at 6’3” and has good speed for a big receiver. During his pro day back at the University of Illinois McGee ran a 4.47 40-yard dash, somewhat similar to what Schilens clocked for San Diego State.

Beyond that we haven’t seen enough of McGee aside from limited snaps last preseason. We don’t know if he is anything close to being as good a route runner as Schilens or if he attacks the ball in the air. But I’ll take Palmer’s evaluation at face value.

No matter McGee’s potential he’s got a tough road to climb in order to get into the mix in Oakland. Schilens was already established as a legit contributor and even he was pretty much an afterthought despite being healthy last season.

With Schilens out of the picture McGee has a clear path to the active roster. Unless another Derek Hagan type shows up in camp and impresses enough to get a contract. Such is life in the NFL for an undrafted talent like McGee. Chances are few and far between so all this could be for not if we never see him in a regular season competition.

It is the rumor that just won’t die. Every year we go through this same song and dance. An unemployed Terrell Owens insists he can roll out of bed and still grab 80 balls for 1,000 yards and some lazy journalist cranks up the T.O. to Oakland rumor machine.

It is the Jason Voorhees of football rumormongering. A sad and pathetic attempt to constantly resurrect a headline from the grave that was never meant to be…but this time it’s a little bit different.

This time the Owens in Oakland rumors are a directly result of the Raiders themselves…sort of.

Darrius Heyward-Bey Tweeted a photo earlier this week of himself and a few teammates after a workout in Los Angeles. Oh…Terrell Owens happened to be in the photo too.

Yep, T.O. is working out with DHB, Carson Palmer, David Ausberry and Eddie McGee.

So…the Raiders have to be considering going after Owens right? Wrong!

Palmer is a SoCal guy. Ausberry is a Central Valley native that played at USC. DHB is getting in a workout with his QB and McGee is trying to stay employed. If anything Owens is just trying to get to where McGee is, that’s why he’s hugged up with college QB turned NFL receiver. Plus T.O. and Palmer have a history having spent a season playing together in Cincinnati.

That is all folks…nothing to see here.

Now last season Palmer did manage to get one of his guys a job when T.J. Houshmandzadeh landed an undeserved roster spot. But Hue Jackson had a little something to do with that too, it wasn’t all Palmer.

There’s just no way Reggie McKenzie will extend an offer to Owens. Not when T.O. was out of the NFL for all of last year and not when he’s toiling in an indoor football league in Texas. Certainly not when all Owens is playing for is a check that will rid him of the deadbeat dad label.

So can we please kill this rumor once and for all, never to speak of it again? Most likely not. I’m sure this hideous notion will rise from the grave and I’ll be back to posting this same tirade again and again and again…
