We already knew Nnamdi Asomugha was one of the few men in all of sports that truly talks the talk and walks the walk. In an era when so many say one thing in front of a camera yet do something totally opposite when the lights are off, Asomugha is the real deal. Should Nnamdi depart the East Bay via free agency the Raiders stand to lose much more than a great player, they’d be minus a great human being as well.

Chronicle writer Rob Kroichick authored a wonderful background piece on Asomugha that is a must read. With his words, Kroichick paints a vivid portrait of the man former teammate Jay Richardson referred to as “the Barack Obama of defensive backs”.

Most telling of all is how his family views Nnamdi’s success in football. Known for being incredibly humble and soft spoken, Asomugha remains grounded largely because his highly educated and motivated family doesn’t consider his job real work.

“They say, ‘Oh, he just plays football – when that’s over, then start your real job.’ “

He’s no longer a Raider but Jay Richardson hasn’t lost his Raider Ways. The former defensive end is trying his luck in broadcasting and kicked off his radio career with an admission I’m sure most every NFL defender shares.

Richardson, released by the Raiders last season, is the host of the creatively named JRich Report on the EYES Radio Network. For his debut Richardson took a moment to discuss the pleasure he took in punishing San Diego crybaby Philip Rivers.

“I’m not a big Philip Rivers fan, because I think he’s kind of a cocky dude and I’ve had a chance to sack him before and hit him as hard as I can. I’ll do so again if I get another opportunity.”

No real surprise there. You don’t have to be on the field to know the type of guy Rivers is. His infamous heckling of Jay Cutler pretty much said it all. Aside from his cocky nature Rivers gets a lot of hate because he plays for a team that fails to live up to expectations more often than LeBron James. However Richardson does give Rivers props for his game.

“This guy is one of the top six quarterbacks in the NFL. He gets that respect from me and a lot of other guys in the league. Me personally, I just want to him. That’s just me, that’s what I do for a living.”

Yeah, Rivers can ball…that’s for sure. He’s about the only QB in the league unafraid to throw at Nnamdi Asomugha. Some of that can be attributed to his skill, most to his ego.

When Tom Cable got canned there were plenty of players upset by the timing Al’s dicey decision. It’s not that there was no support for Hue Jackson. It’s just that Cable had earned the respect of the locker room, something no coach had done in the East Bay since Chucky took a trip to Tampa.

Now nobody is saying Coach Jackson is going to have as much success as Gruden. Well, nobody except Trevor Scott who sees Jackson being able to do what Chucky couldn’t accomplish in Oakland – win a Super Bowl.

Football News Now ran a story yesterday in which they quoted Scott in his support for Coach Jackson.

“I think Hue Jackson getting hired as a head coach is a huge step forward. It kind of stinks seeing coach Cable go . . . he did nothing but go up every single year, so best wishes to him, but I feel like Hue Jackson is going to take that next step to where we were and he’s going to take us to where we want to go and that is to win the AFC Championship and then win the Super Bowl.”

Scott gave a little of his time to former teammate Jay Richardson for the JRich Report which will be a part of an upcoming radio show featuring the one-time Raider.
