Knapp, of course, coordinated an awful Oakland offense just a few years ago. So what better way to welcome Knapp back then to give him the same quarterbacks coach he worked with.

According to reports John Defilippo has been hired for a second stint as QB coach of the Oakland Raiders. Defilippo had the impossible task of trying to make JaMarcus Russell and Andrew Walter NFL quarterbacks. In that instance both he and Knapp get somewhat of pass for what they were working with last time around relative to their results.

Last season the Raiders were without an official quarterbacks coach. Defilippo’s biggest tasks will be developing Terrelle Pryor and getting Carson Palmer to cut down on turnovers.

The re-hiring of former coaches is one thing but the plundering of collegiate coaches is a real trend. Allen’s last three hires have all come from the collegiate ranks. Defilippo has had stints with other NFL teams but was most recently coaching QBs at San Jose State.
