Sometimes no news is good news. TMZ catching up with Javon Walker in a Las Vegas night club is nothing to write home about. Then again, for Walker it’s better to be caught by the TMZ cameras than it is to be caught slippin like the last time he was seen in Sin City.

Javon and Bow Wow were spotted minus any flashy accessories that would make them prey for the countless vultures that circle the Vegas strip. Playing it safe is a good bet in a city built on gambling.

Stay safe Javon and enjoy the pleasures of Las Vegas. After that stellar season of zero catches for zero yards in 2009, we’re all excited to see how you’ll top yourself in 2010. To be fair to Javon, he wasn’t even given the chance to live up to that $55-million deal Al Davis gave him. I guess Tom Cable figured that his team was more than capable of losing 11 games without the services of a receiver with a bionic knee.

Coming to a Casino near you.

Tom Cable excused JaMarcus Russell from the final team meeting so that the farce of the franchise could attend to a “personal matter”. If by “personal matter” Russell meant he wanted to reenact his favorite scenes from The Hangover, then that would explain why he’s currently in Las Vegas.

To compound the ongoing JaMarcus saga, David White of the Chronicle reports that one of Russell’s teammates was the one who dropped the dime on his whereabouts.

It would appear that Al Davis is the only Russell fan left in Raider Nation. After being booed off the field in the season finale, JaMarcus sought refuge at The Palms Casino Resort in Sin City. At least that is where he is rumored to be gambling away some of Grandpa Al’s fortune. 

Before we all bust out our jump-to-conclusions mats, let’s take look at the other side of the coin.

Maybe there is another 6-foot, 6-inch, fur coat wearing, JaMarcus Russell out there. Would our JaMarcus really be so arrogant as to not even use a fake name at the front desk? I mean, he did score a 24 on his wonderlic. By Colin Cowherd logic, that makes JaMarcus smarter than Dan Marino and Brett Favre.   

All Oakland Tribune columnist Cam Inman had to do was to call the front desk and ask if a JaMarcus Russell had checked in. Nice security there, Maloof bros. Erin Andrews can’t wait to spend a weekend at your resort.

Inman also put together a top-10 list of things Russell could be doing in Vegas. Of all his speculations, only one would fall under the “personal matter” category.

No. 4: To use the Elvis Wedding Chappell (which, come to think of it, indeed might make for an “excused” absence from the Raiders).

 If he is getting hitched, I hope Russell told his new bride that he’ll be looking for work in 2010. That is if Cable returns as coach next season.

If, in fact, this story holds true then I’m afraid we’re looking at a perfect microcosm of why the once proud Silver and Black franchise is now nothing more than a running joke with Russell as its punchline.

Update: Jerry McDonald reports that the Raiders confirmed Russell is in Las Vegas for a “legitimate reason” and is with a Raiders staff member.
