It’s impossible not to talk about the late great Al Davis this time of year. The combine was Al’s playground and today he would have loved to see his potential new toys as the quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers took to the drills in Indianapolis.

Naturally the fastest man at the combine always found himself square in the sights of Davis and today Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin made his case for the former owner who no doubt was watching from high above with stopwatch in hand.

Goodwin ran the fastest 40 yard dash yet at the 2013 combine blazing an official time of 4.27. That time is good for the second fastest since Tennessee Titan runner Chris Johnson run a 4.24 during his combine coming out party. No real surprise the former track star would be the leader with running backs and defensive backs yet to run. Goodwin showed good form running, staying low with a fluid running style you’d expect from someone with a track background.

West Virginia’s Tavon Austin and Texas A&M receiver Ryan Swope both clocked in at 4.34 with TCU’s Josh Boyce and Oklahoma’s Kenny Stills running 4.38 respectively to round out the top performers in the combine’s marquee event.

While the Raiders are no longer in the business of drafting speed for the sake of speed there will always be the association due to the number of men that comprise the top all-time combine performances who went on to wear Silver and Black on Sundays.
