The name JaMarcus Russell will forever be the albatross around the neck of the Oakland Raiders franchise. It seems no matter how far removed we are from JaMistake the longer his shadow grows. Until Oakland rises from the ashes of this dismal decade the name of Russell will haunt our Silver and Black dreams.

Of course if some other sucker makes the unimaginable mistake of giving Russell another NFL check then the curse of JaBust will be lifted.

Thankfully the New York Jets exist. Hopefully the reports of their interest in Russell are real. Maybe the best thing that could happen to Raider Nation is the worst thing possible to happen to the career of Mark Sanchez.

No secrets the Jets were a mess in 2012. The Tim Tebow circus came to town and before you can say biggest draft bust ever Russell-mania could be on the way as well.

But hey one man’s trash is another’s treasure…so they say. Russell recently expressed his desire to get back into the game and judging by his 300-pound physique you know he’s serious. Maybe nothing will come of this but if nothing else just know the reality of Russell retuning to the NFL is becoming very possible.

Reggie McKenzie’s abolishment of the scholarship program in Oakland meant Raider Nation was never going to see Chaz Schilens reach his full potential in silver and black. Chances are that won’t happen in New York either. Not unless Schilens can actually stay healthy but more likely because Mark Sanchez will be his quarterback.

Schilens will be taking his potential to the New York Jets where he’ll be reunited with Sanjay Lal. It would be hard to imagine Lal didn’t sell Rex Ryan and the Jets brass on all Schilens has to offer. Lal has gotten a great look at Schilens as his position coach in Oakland the last few years. But given the way Sanchez continuously underwhelms it’s hard to imagine Schilens being the reason way one of Ryan’s guarantees actually comes to fruition.

No matter what he has or hasn’t done in his career it says something that Schilens has stuck in the NFL. Most 7th round picks are luck to get a year or two on the practice squad. With great size, blazing speed, an attacking mentality and some nice route running the former Aztec has done well for himself.

I wish Schilens nothing but the best and hope he makes sure to check the IDs of any chicks Sanchez brings around for a double date.

Both Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan were warned. These aren’t those Raiders. Those Raiders allowed Mark Sanchez enough time to down a dog with mustard on the sideline. These Raiders almost made so that the only way Sanchez would enjoy any food is through a straw. An early 10-point deficit became a 10-point win as Oakland bested New York 34-24 in the East Bay opener.

These are Hue Jackson’s Raiders. A group that doesn’t read GQ. Maybe Sanchez can fool photographers with flashy poses but he can’t trick Richard Seymour and the rest of the Raiders’ front four.

All day long the Silver and Black left Sanchez and company black and blue. Oakland is quickly becoming the destination for must-see-TV. Another thrilling game that this time thankfully ended in a Raider W.

In case you’re still sleeping on Darren McFadden you might want to stop hitting the snooze. Dude is playing like an MVP candidate and if you don’t believe me just ask Clown Coach Ryan. Run DMC walked his way all over the Jets en route to a 2-TD, 180 total yard effort. In fact, McFadden becomes the first ever runner to eclipse the 100-yard barrier in the Ryan era and Oakland’s 224 rushing yards are the most allowed by the Jets since the fat man has patrolled the sideline in New York Jersey.

And if all you do is read box scores then you have no idea how well Jason Campbell played today. From a man that has been as critical of JC as I’ve been it comes with great pride to admit fault in how perfectly Campbell has played this year. Today, Campbell threw a perfect game as he made the right decision on every snap.

Don’t let the numbers fool you. Campbell might have only passed for 156 yards but every one counted. Not to mention the fact that the Raiders played turnover free football which put them in position to win despite a sluggish start.

Coach Jackson’s bully is building momentum.
